What is HDI PCB? 1st, 2nd, 3rd Order HDI Differences & Applications
HDI (High-Density Interconnect) PCB enables smaller, lighter, and higher-performance electronic products. It uses micro-vias, blind vias, and buried vias to achieve high wiring density.
1st Order HDI
The most cost-effective type. Suitable for consumer electronics, smart home devices, and general industrial modules. Meets 90% of small and medium batch production needs.
2nd Order HDI
Higher wiring density, finer lines, better reliability. Used in wearables, small communication modules, and compact smart devices.
3rd Order & Above HDI
High-end HDI for flagship smartphones, AI terminals, automotive electronics, and high-performance medical devices.

Key Tip:
For most small & medium batch orders, 1st–2nd order HDI is sufficient. Higher-order HDI will significantly increase cost without obvious performance improvement.
